Today, Tsipras first act as Prime Minister of Greece was to lay flowers at the Kaisariani rifle range, where the Nazis executed 200 Greek freedom fighters and members of the communist resistance in 1944. Among those executed by the Nazis was Nikos Glezos, younger brother of Manolis Glezos -- the legendary Greek resistance hero and left-wing activist, now a Syriza deputy and the oldest Member of European Parliament at age 92. In this short video, Glezos tells his brothers story and shows the piece of cloth that he tore out of his helmet and on which he wrote a final farewell letter to his mother just before being executed, noting that he would fall for the Gr. PEOPLE. When Glezos was asked earlier this week what would be the program and basic political aims of a radical left government, heres what the old partisan responded: [The aim is] to bring the people in power. To give jobs to the unemployed. To fight for our countrys rights. To equally distribute wealth. To protect the human being and the environment. To... to... to... How could I fit in a few lines a world Ive been dreaming of during the last 70 years? (Thanks to Markos for the quote.)
