Today, West Papuans from across the country held demonstrations to to thank the Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Joe Natuman after giving an historic speech at the United Nations supporting the West Papuan struggle. Mr Natuman also gave a moving tribute to Dr John Ondawame, a West Papuan hero who recently died in exile in Vanuatu. People gathered together in FakFak where they had prepared a banner expressing their thanks to the Prime Minister. In Port Numbay/Jayapura, West Papuans also held a gathering where they held a banner of thanks and also carried portraits of Prime Minister Natuman. These demonstrations were organised by the West Papua National Committee [KNPB] who released a joint statement expressing their gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving the people of West Papua a voice. They called upon our fellow Melanesian governments to also follow the footsteps of the Vanuatu government and support West Papua joining the regional Melanesian Spearhead Group. On behalf of the Free West Papua Campaign, thank you very much Prime Minister Natuman for spreading our message to the outside world.
