Today, Wreaths Across America volunteers will be placing 750,000 wreaths on the graves of deceased veterans across America -- from the Revolution to Afghanistan and Iraq. Our Founding Fathers wisely guarded the inalienable rights that were endowed to all people by our Creator. Those rights have been defended and protected for over 230 years by the brave men and women who have served, and are currently serving, our country in uniform. This day of remembrance is personal to many thousands of Virginians living in my district. One of my constituents, Carla Blaine Mentry, has been a steadfast supporter of Wreaths Across America. Carlas father, PFC John L. Blaine, was a member of U.S. Army Company B, 303rd Combat Engineers and served in the European Theater during World War II, including The Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with three Purple Hearts and an oak leaf cluster. PFC Blaine honorably served the United States for 22 years and upon retirement, he himself placed wreaths at the graves of his fallen comrades. Today, a wreath will be placed on PFC Blaines grave at Arlington National Cemetery. I hope you will join me in remembering and honoring these great Americans. Also, please take a moment to express your gratitude to our veterans and to their spouses and families. They deserve our heartfelt thanks and continued prayers.
