Today a friend posted a bit about bullying. I agree but I have to add to the bullying topic. Bullies aren’t just mean kids or abused children acting out, they can be anyone. (IMO) The biggest crock of shit is the bullying of children by authority figures. Schools from elementary to college are mostly filled with teachers that “Bully” to control their classroom. They use shame and fear to get their way. When a teacher uses shame or fear as a motivator the only thing I see is an incompetent educator whose inferiority complex has surfaced. If you cannot direct the majority of the students by engaging their naturally curious nature then perhaps you suck at being a teacher. Here is the definition of bullying from a web site called “stopbullying.gov” I changed one thing; I removed the word “KIDS”. An Imbalance of Power: ____ who bully use their power—such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity—to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people. Many teachers ARE bullies. If you really want children to stop bullying then stop modeling it!!!
