Today a grandmother brought her young granddaughter in for a well child visit. Grandma was having a happy/sad day because her daughter, who is deployed overseas with the US Armed Forces, is coming home soon but to another state. So she is thrilled that her daughter - and the mother of her grandchild - will be coming home soon but sad that they may have to leave St. Louis to be with her. She brought me a Dr. Seuss card with two photos inside of this beautiful child reading a picture book that we had given her at the office about 6 months ago. She had brought the now somewhat tattered book with her today, and grandma said, “She never goes anywhere without it.” Inside the card there was a message from this child – with a little help from grandma, I’m sure: “Thank you. Dr. Haller, for being my doctor and giving me a nice book.” Yes, there were tears all around. My work is sometimes challenging, and I am so blessed to be able to do what I get to do everyday. Days like this are why I keep on doing it. And stories like those in these 32 pictures show that, indeed, love is all around…
