Today, a group of more than 20 fourth- and fifth-grade students from Tuckaseegee Elementary School’s gifted magnet program visited the MetLife blimp (Snoopy One) at Gastonia Municipal Airport. The students had the chance to tour the grounded blimp and hear from its pilots and crew about the science of flying it—a process that combines principles from such fields as physics, aviation, and mechanical engineering. “We want to thank MetLife for this wonderful opportunity,” said Wayne Fisher, elementary science specialist at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. “We are always looking for ways to excite our students about learning, and touring a blimp is definitely one of them.” “MetLife is committed to giving back to the Charlotte community—not just as an employer, but as a good corporate citizens,” said Eric Steigerwalt, executive vice president of MetLife’s U.S. Retail Division. “We were pleased to provide this experience for Tuckaseegee students to get out of the classroom and help bring their studies to life.”
