Today a judge made South Dakota among the majority of states in the country who now recognize marriage as a right to everyone. After decades of hard work, set backs, small triumphs, public debate and even deaths, we have earned it. Its a sad reality, really, that we had to earn it. There is a lot to be said about the fight though. It is character building. It teaches our youngsters to persevere and dream big, while it validates what so many of us have been striving for for so long. In the end, there will be gay weddings in South Dakota. But while rights are now equal, there is so much more that is not. Its not easy to pinpoint those inequities, but I came across this TEDX talk by Panti Bliss, a drag queen from Ireland, and it gets to the heart of what I think is the next hurdle. Even with a win for gay marriage today, we cant sit idle. Whats the next step? youtu.be/hIhsv18lrqY
