Today, as I was returning from lunch a co-worker of mine collapsed - TopicsExpress

Today, as I was returning from lunch a co-worker of mine collapsed in the parking lot. Another co-worker and I ran to him. He was unable to breathe. He was having a heart attack. I checked his pulse, racing. I called 911 as my co-worker ran inside to look for a defibrillator. The 911 operator instructed me what to do, and I followed. He was pale and scared, and I told him not to speak, just breathe. While I was waiting for the ambulance I checked his pulse and couldnt find it. He was still conscious so I went to flag the ambulance in. The paramedics and I lifted him on the gurney and into the rig he went. They started chest compressions and even hit him with the paddles. I just found out that he didnt survive. He died at the hospital a short time later. I cant help but think that if I had started CPR instead of flashing down the ambulance it would have made a difference. I know that really isnt the case, when I got the news about his passing, I was informed that he was conscious at the hospital and he got to see his wife one last time before he passed away. Maybe thats the win here. Maybe today was always meant to be his last day, but instead of it being alone and scared in a parking lot, it was looking into his loves eyes and saying goodbye. Today has been HEAVY.
