Today, as part of a focus to gain support and raise awareness for the proposed site c dam, I headed into businesses and shops all over Fort St John with handmade collection jars, looking to leave them on local businesses checkout counters. Asking for donations for an auction. One by one, I was turned away for political reasons. Businesses know how long this fight has been fought and how controversial it is. None of them will allow the dam to be associated with their business name, for OR against the dam, and many of them admittedly are indifferent as to whether or not they support the proposed dam. I spent my afternoon repeating my plea for support, all I asked was to put a jar on the counter that said save the peace to benefit the huge expenses being faced by residents of the valley in their upcoming court case against site c. 12-15 businesses. Not one voice. Finally, at nearly closing time, and on the advice of my local librarian, I visited a lovely locally owned glass shop. I was so relieved when they agreed to keep a jar on the table that I burst into tears. I ended up staying and chatting with the owners for nearly two hours. It turns out these people were long time protestors of the dam and had attended the court case back in the early nineties when the people won for a second time against BCHydro. Theyve been financially and morally supportive of the Peace Valley Landowners Association from the day they learned of the fight and have remained supportive ever since, attending all the meetings and events, fundraisers and court cases. I am lost for ideas. The committee my friend and I made to organize a fundraiser event is looking grim because none of the local venues will allow us to hold an event to benefit those going to court to fight for the valley. ___________________________________________________ This is a plea to my fellow British Columbians to get informed and involved. Join the say no to site c Facebook page, the peace valley landowners association Facebook page. Leave messages of encouragement and share links reviews and articles you find to be relevant. Write letters and cc them to all the Ministers and MLAs you can find contacts for. Talk about it and share your concerns. This is our last chance to save the view, the hunting, the fishing, the land, the agriculture, the stability of my hometown, the affordable utility rates, and most importantly, democracy. The people in this province who care about responsible economy, environment, and resource management are being oppressed by fascist politics and poor representation. This affects us all. PLEASE help and to those who do, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. https://fundrazr/campaigns/0uUL7?psid=9d7cd9bff9924881b7cc8a0171ad6217 https://facebook/peacevalleylandownerassoc?ref=ts&fref=ts https://facebook/groups/5491717354/files/
