Today as soon as I came into work I had a woman that I work with asked me if I would grab my chair and come have a seat with her. (Granted this co-worker is in her mid-50’s, a tad smaller in size than I am and has been with the company for like 10 years, but beyond her being a permanent employee and I work thru a staffing agency… we are pretty much the same… she is not a boss.) Anyways, I sit down in her cube and she starts to talk to me…. “ Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?”… I have no idea, honestly I would like to not be working at all and stay at home, if that’s possible. (There is no way that this job will become permanent.. but I will ride it out as long as they will have me). “So you don’t want to work in the corporate world?” No.. I’ve done it for 10 years and it is not for me… It’s not my cup of tea. I would actually like to do something with fashion or cosmetology… “Well I was thinking you should change your appearance, and tone yourself down!... If you want anyone’s respect you need to consider changing because being a big girl you already have that against you!”.. I told her if I have to change ME to get someone’s respect then I don’t want it… I am me. Yes I am a little out there… but I know who I am (happy right now with me) and I should not have to change me! (I have bright red hair, pierced nose, polka dot glasses with a bow on them, a few visible tattoos and I have just started to stretch my ears…. All of which the JOB is ok with!) I AM ME!!! I am not striving for respect and acceptance… F off if you don’t like me for me!
