Today as the South East wind blows upon us I can smell Holly - TopicsExpress

Today as the South East wind blows upon us I can smell Holly Sugar. It brings back memories of riding thru the beet cattle with my Grandfather talking about how good JC Reeves beets were and how fat the cattle had gotten in such a short time. We would take turns heading and heeling the choked/sick, let the horses drink and load up for the next pasture to ride. Times have changed so much here, people complain about the smell of the packing plant, Holly Sugar and the feedlots. The tractors working in the fields create to much dust or take up the roads when traveling to another field. That was the smell of money to us and years ago it meant jobs and revenue for the city. So many people have moved to our little farming/cattle valley that nobody appreciates what our grandfathers worked hard to accomplish. Missing that!
