Today as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. let us also not - TopicsExpress

Today as we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. let us also not forget and thank those who stood with him to lead the civil rights movement. Today, I fondly remember my days working with the NAACP Washington Bureau in D.C. where I had the opportunity to meet and work with many civil rights icons from Martin Luther King, Jr. III, Julian Bond, Congressman John Lewis and so many more. In 1999, while working at the NAACP I focused on health policy and racial health disparities (an issue I learned about a year earlier). There is still much more work to be done. We must stand up not only when its convenient, in the words of Dr. King, The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Martin Luther King Jr.
