Today as we know is the first day of childhood cancer awareness - TopicsExpress

Today as we know is the first day of childhood cancer awareness month. The month in which Callum should become a teenager but instead will be forever 7, thanks to DIPG. The month in which fellow Go Gold Australia Coordinator and friend lost her daughter Erin to DIPG. The month in which we should be most active in advocating for more awareness and research into childhood cancer, however personally it is one of the months that will be forever the most difficult to get through, as difficult as May which is brain tumour awareness month. The 1st day of which Callum died and Erin was born. Another month when we should be strongest in our advocacy but again another month when grief is at its peak. Childhood cancer sucks no matter what sort it is. The only risk factor in getting childhood cancer is being a child! No lifestyle choices can reduce the chances of getting cancer, the only difference that can be made to increasing the survival rate of children is via research, with most of the funding for research being left to bereaved families or families battling this insidious disease to raise. If you only do one thing this month please let it be to tell a friend about the reality of childhood cancer or donate to a childrens cancer research charity. Childrens lives are at stake!
