Today as we mourn the loss of Rhonda Sellers Elkins, author of My Bright Shining Star: A Mothers True Story of Brilliance, Love and Suicide, on this National Grief Awareness Day, I ask all of you who know a griever - especially a grieving parent - to take a moment, today, to reach out in love. I cannot fully express how much I admire those who continue to help others, through their own pain. This is for Maggie Copus, the founder of Console My Moms Soul - Give Her Skills to Cope with My Passing, whose life was forever changed by the loss by suicide of her son Joshua; and for Tammy Salerno Richardson, co-founder and active promoter of a local Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention chapter in western New York, whose son would have celebrated his 21st birthday today; and for Shannon Lea, whose Team Rahne will be walking in the 2014 Out of the Darkness Walk in Saratoga Springs next month for suicide prevention, and has already reached and exceeded her fund-raising goal, to remember her daughter Rahne. Lets remember, honor, and respect our friend Rhonda Sellers Elkins by sharing our love with those who continue to deal with this daily battle. I dont know how they do it and I know that sometimes the battle is lost. Every day we are graced with the continued presence of my courageous friends is a miracle to celebrate. We are reminded today not to take a single day for granted.
