Today at Adjunct faculty lecture series in our college , Muslim League MLA was invited to talk on the subject "Globalisation and cultural invasion". As far as I heard him his talk touched these subjects. 1. Various teachings of Islam. 2. How they are in sync with Great Indian cultural heritage of 5000 years. (Usual Zakir Naik stuff of mapping Indian culture into Islamic monotheism) 3. Saddam, Anti Americanism and Anti Israel 4. He even said that the present Jews does not belong to land of Israel.(They are migrants) I asked him one question : Do not you think that Indian culture which accepts every religion as true( even irreligion) is important and relevant than narrow religions ? Vedas say "Let noble thought come from every side" , should not we imbibe every good thoughts and ideas coming from east and west , north and south , religions and irreligion ? To this his answer was : He asked my name(probably to know my religion), and then quoted Gayathri manthra, and said there is only one supreme God. And we should only worship one God. As time was short, I was not able to follow up to his reply. Indian culture is not about counting number of Gods, it is a man making culture. Another gentleman rubbished his migrant Jews theory, by saying that we should respect the spirit of unity of Jews and also their contribution to science and literature. We Indians, are in fact consumers of Israeli defence innovations. I wonder how a secular topic like this was brought down to level of religion. After all, he is from Muslim League. :)
