Today at St. Lukes Episcopal Church BR was a highpoint in my ordained ministry. We transferred the Feast of St. Luke to this day, and since this year marks the 50th anniversary of worship at 8833 Goodwood Blvd, we also celebrated a Founders Day with one principal morning service followed by a spectacular luncheon. Bishop Charles Jenkins, the 3rd rector of St. Lukes, did an outstanding job as our guest preacher. We dedicated a tree in honor of our founders and in hopeful expectation for an abundant future. And this afternoon the Parish Choir (accompanied by a chamber orchestra) did an incredible job of leading an Evensong in thanksgiving to God for the gift of music and in remembrance of Bishop Clarence Pope (the 2nd rector of St. Lukes) on the 85th anniversary of his birth. Deep thanks to the many people who worked so hard to make all of this possible (including my wonderful colleagues Deacon Reese Wiggins and Fr. Watson Lamb). What a blessing it is to be the rector of St. Lukes!
