Today at about 10:34 am, an F-16 war plane with its landing gear down flew low and slow over Spokanes West Central Community Center. These aircraft are involved US military aggression around the worldm and are used by 30 plus nations. After the US, Israel owns more of these than any nation and has used them in strikes in Palestine, including in recent days in Gaza. It is believed to be a missile fired from an Israeli F-16 which killed the 4 Palestinian boys on the Gaza beach 2 days ago. Google F-16 Israeli Gaza for stories on recent Israeli F-16 attacks on Gaza. In a 7/16/14 article entitled Boys Drawn to Gaza Beach, and Into Center of Mideast Strife, The New York Times reported that Human Rights Watchs condemnation of Israeli use of F-16s. In November 2012, Palestinians shot down an Israeli IDF F-16. Why would an F-16 be flying low over Spokane? To help train KC-135 refueling aircraft and crews stationed out of Fairchild? To attend SERE (Survive, Evade, Rescue, Escape) training at Fairchild prior to going to combat theaters in the Middle East? The answer in short is because Fairchild is - and long has been - a central element in US imperialist war policy around world. The Us genocide in Vietnam was largely conducted with saturation carpet bombing bye B 52 bombers based out of places like Fairchild. The B-52s were removed from Fairchild and replaced by the refueling KC- 135s in the early 1990s. We in Spokane are failing to accept our responsibility for shutting it down. And we fail the people of the world and ourselves when we allow local politicians, including City Council President Ben Stuckart, to publicly state (as Stuckart did during the debate on the Spokane Tribes propsed casino) that everyone in Spokane supports Fairchild. That is a lie but a lie that we tolerate.
