Today at camp we enjoyed the nice cool day! Campers are getting efficient at feeding and cleaning stalls. After morning work is done, campers are also more efficient at grooming and tacking up their horses. Working more efficiently means more time to ride! In our morning lesson campers played GAMES! After practicing on foot, campers tacked up and played Games on horseback! Campers used all the skills that they have been working on at camp to play Bending poles, mug shuffle, sword and ring, fruit dunk and ball and wicket. Through the fun of games campers communicated with their horses, practiced multitasking, planning ahead, balancing, leaning, bending, steering, and controlling their horses, passing to their partners and teamwork! You can see by the smiles how much FUN the campers had today. With the stormy forecast, campers had an extra long riding lesson. After playing several rounds of each game, the campers were given the change to just ride. It was impressive to see how the campers used their time! For their extra 30 minute riding time EVERY camper took the initiative to practice their skills that they will be asked to showcase for parents and family in their show tomorrow! Lunch time is a time of laughter and sharing with all the campers. The campers really enjoy each others company! After lunch, as forecast the rains came. The day continues even in the rain! Unmounted lessons today included identification and learning proper names of saddles and bridles. Campers have been working with horse shoes all week. They learned how to properly pick out their horses feet each day checking for dirt and stones that can hurt their horses feet. Today campers spent time comparing horses feet and the different types of shoes that the horses have. Campers found out that Ruby is special and wears glue on shoes with gel goo pads! In arts and crafts the campers were given a horse shoe to decorate and make into a picture frame for their rooms. The pictures for the frames is a special memento of their week at camp! Tomorrow our Camp Horse Show begins ( hopefully) at 10:15 am. Family and friends are welcome! The show lasts about an hour and a half. If siblings are coming, they may play in the grass area outside the ring. There is a sand area that children are welcome to play in. Campers will have a full day at camp after the show!
