Today at church I saw a friend who had just come home from - TopicsExpress

Today at church I saw a friend who had just come home from vacation so I popped over to give him a hug and welcome him home... Instantly I felt terrible as I realized I had interrupted his conversation... I quickly went back to what I was doing and when I glanced back I suddenly realized that the man he was talking to had very obvious injuries to his face... As I looked closer and saw his wounds it appeared to me that he had been in some type of a motor vehicle accident... I made my way back over after a few minutes and when there was a break in conversation I apologized to them for my previous interruption and introduced myself to this injured man... The three of us talked for a few minutes and even exchanged some laughs... This injured man sat in the fellowship hall during service and I typically sit in there as well as to not be a distraction since I fidget a lot and have to get up so many times during the services... At one point during the service he got up and grabbed some napkins and stepped outside the door, I winced at the thought of his pain as I could tell he needed to blow his nose... He has a hard time getting up and down and I could tell he was in a lot of pain... The napkins were covered in blood when he came back in the door for more... I offered him access to the first aid kit and or an ice pack but he just thanked me and said he was fine... As service ended I moved to the chair next to him and told him that I didnt want to be nosey about his situation but that I wanted to thank him for making church a priority despite his injuries... So many people make excuses of why they cant make it to church yet here he was in physical pain, black and blue and with large wounds all over his face... He shared with me that he had been hit by a truck, I asked him how long ago, he couldnt remember what day it happened on as he was still so disoriented, I knew it had been within days as he had so many fresh wounds... Yet here he was, taking time to hear Gods word and from a few other things he shared it sounded like he may just be in a rock bottom place of coming back to The Lord... I thanked him for his witness and told him about the verse in the bible that says Even escapes from death belong to The Lord Psalm 68:20 and that I was so glad he was still here with us and that I hoped to see him back at church again!! Have you missed church a lot? What keeps you away? Do you just want to sleep in? This man hobbled and limped with large wounds covering his body just to hear Gods word... His priority today was to be close to the One who gave him the escape from death, the One who spared his life and took his place to save his soul... That my friends is a beautiful thing!!
