Today, between 4pm - 8pm we will have Mike Labrador, one of the Columbia-areas top RockTape Docs, or in laymans terms, someone who applies kinesiology tape, providing complimentary taping at our Downtown store located inside Carolina Crossit, 1825 Laurel Street, Columbia. Last week I had a little conversation with Mike about how taping can help CrossFitters: Me: Mike, a lot of CrossFitters watched the CrossFit Games in California. I know I have seen several competitors who have a lot of RockTape on. For the CrossFitters who are not familiar with RockTape, can you explain exactly what it is? Mike: Sure, RockTape is an enhanced version of Kinesiology tape designed to foster proper muscular movement. Me: How can taping with RockTape help athletes during their CrossFit WOD? Mike: There are many taping patterns to add stability, correct improper movement & enhance performance. RockTape is designed to facilitate the BADASS mentality… Go Stronger, Longer! Me: What are some common performance taping applications that athletes can have you apply? Mike: The most common taping applications used during a CrossFit workout or competition is: 1. HANDS – This offers wrist stabilization while adding palm protection. 2. CORE – This is a great core stabilization addition for any workout. 3. POSTERIOR CHAIN – Enables explosive power for those Kettle Bell workouts. 4. KNEE – Perfect for stability during Box Jumps and Squats among many other workouts. 5. PRESS – Perfect for those full body (explosive) power-lifting techniques. Me: Once you apply the tape to an athlete, how long will my it last? Mike: The tape will typically last 3 – 5 days depending on activity level however; some applications are designed for one use. If you are in the Columbia area and want free taping done that will last 3 - 5 days, come on in. Mike Labrador lives in Columbia, SC and is a Facial Movement Taping (FMT) LEVEL I & II Certified RockTape Doc. Mike will be offering his kinesio taping services through Velocity Distance Project - Downtown (inside Carolina CrossFit) Monday, July 28, between 4pm - 8pm.
