Today didnt quite go as planned. We travelled from Hanoi to Halong Bay (4 hrs in a bus with a stop on the way) and found out that they had stopped all boats from going out in the bay because the wind had increased to a level 4. The would make another determination at 3 pm and may be change their mind. So we ended up in a local seafood cafe for lunch. By 3 the wind had increased so our lovely 7 course lunch, cruise around Halong Bay 9 course dinner and overnight on a junk has been cancelled. The typhoon that hit the coast yesterday was rated a category 13 and has done quite a bit of damage and we are copping the extreme edge of the wind. While we were waiting for a decision to be made I Anna and I wandered down to the beach, abandoned shoes and walked in the water so at least I can say I did wet my feet even though I didnt swim here. We ended up at a 5 star hotel dinner and local night markets. Hopefully it will die down overnight and we will do a 4 hour cruise instead before heading back to Hanoi and then heading south to where the typhoon has hit.
