Today, families all across Rhode Island and our country will gather together to give thanks for our many blessings. I am thankful for the opportunity to spend time with friends and family, and for the privilege of serving you in Congress. Like all Rhode Islanders, I am especially thankful to the many brave men and women who serve in our armed forces and protect the freedoms we enjoy. During this holiday season, we should also remember our neighbors and the responsibility that we have to look after one another and to ensure that the full bounty of the opportunities of our great country are available to all. As families across the country and in Rhode Island struggle to make ends meet, it’s important that we rededicate ourselves to the promise that everyone deserves a fair shot at success for themselves and their families. Despite the challenges we face today, let’s remember that as Americans we enjoy freedoms and blessings unlike anywhere else in the world and that our values as a nation have always led us toward prosperity. From the time the Pilgrims and the Wapanoag tribe celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621, we have always come together as one people, to share in our good fortune, mindful that our best days lie ahead. I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.
