Today has been a busy but eye-opening and productive day. For those following the Forest Ranger cutbacks, I was at the info meeting in Appropriations today, and really wasnt overly impressed with the plan so to speak. One thing that struck me, is that every time there is consolidation -- schools, jails, now Ag, Conservation and Forestry, -- is that the the only consolidation going on is who has say over what. In this case, it means fewer rangers. And thats not a good thing on a whole host of levels, not the least of which is property rights, and people who believe that rural rangers are hard pressed to do what they do now. Anyhow, it will take a while to play out, I am sure, and will twist and turn many more times, but I just dont see this current iteration of the plan as a win win. At the same time, today was a win win for your not-so-humble state representative. I am pleased to report that the bill I put in to allow schools greater say on how they make up snow days got gobs of sponsors. I tell you, I was having to fight people off. All told, I managed eight co-sponsors -- including two from across the aisle -- in just under five hours. And I got her turned back into the Revisor before the ink even had a chance to dry. This job is loads of fun. It really is. Thank you all again for sending me up here. We probably wont agree 100% of the time, but Ill always lay it out, and do my best to keep you in the know on as much as I possibly can.
