Today has been a very emotional day for DNA and all those that met - TopicsExpress

Today has been a very emotional day for DNA and all those that met Frank in his short time with us. I will never forget the day we first met, I was walking through the shelter and my husband called me, while talking to him I continued my walk through the runs full of dogs needing rescue. Out of the corner of my eye, this little Doxie came up to the door of his kennel to greet me. I shouted down the phone OMG there is a mini Zac here. We immediately said we wanted to rescue him. It turned out that Frank had tested Heartworm positive, so he needed us even more. We picked him up from the shelter on Friday and noticed his ears had both been chewed, it was also discovered he had severe scaring around his neck from what had been an embedded collar, he was also a little wary of humans, so with all this we knew his previous life had been one of abuse and neglect. As with every dog we rescue, their new life starts the day we give them their freedom ride, their not so good lives are definitely long behind them. Like our other rescues Frank got a new collar, leash, a little sweater and a nice comfy bed to call their own. Sadly Frank didnt seem to be feeling well Saturday evening, we were quite concerned and rushed him to Augusta Animal Emergency, tests were performed and all came back negative. He came home with meds and seemed to perk up. Around 11.30 pm Sunday evening he seemed to take a turn for the worst, I called AAE and the staff were so supportive, but sadly we never got the chance to take him back. He passed away around midnight on his little bed. We are all completely devastated. A Necropsy was performed today and Frank will be cremated and his ashes spread in a peaceful resting place. This is something we do or our rescues or they are buried in their foster Moms garden. We feel however bad their life while alive, we always want them to have a peaceful resting place. We see so many dogs who have suffered so much through neglect, we will never understand why people treat pets this way. A dog should be a loving family member and should be cared for with love until their final days. RIP my little snuggle buddy...Run free across Rainbow Bridge xxx
