Today has been an AMAZING 1st day in El Salvador. The 1st thing I saw out of the airport windows were coconut trees. They are everywhere! And so are mango trees. The beauty of the countryside is outstanding. Lush mountains and volcanoes are prevalent. However, you immediately see the poverty of the people within all this beauty. Houses are packed close together and are in horrible condition. Then there is the sense of looming violence. We were escorted through downtown with armed guards. The guards had M16s. In the midst of this I heard the word "hope". The Director of Compassion here said there is hope because of our Lord & Savior: Jesus Christ. I have to agree with him. Tomorrow we visit a Child Development Center and we will get to eat lunch with a family. There is certainly hope...
