Today in 1836, reporting from San Felipe, Tejas: FORCE AUTHORIZED TO OBTAIN RECORDS FROM THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE Today Acting Governor James Robinson authorized the use of force to retrieve governmental records from Gov. Henry Smith (photo below). When the Marshall returned today to seize the documents, Smith once again refused. The Marshall then summoned 12 persons to assist in forcibly removing the documents, but 9 of them refused to assist. A committee composed of several members of the Council and the Governor’s office are meeting behind the scene in hopes of avoiding an armed clash. GOVERNOR SMITH ORDERS WILLIAM TRAVIS TO RAISE 100 VOLUNTEERS TO AID THE ALAMO Today Governor Smith ordered William Travis to raise a company of 100 volunteers to reinforce Bexar and provided $100 to fund supplies for the volunteers. Yet, Sam Houston appears to desire to the Alamo to be destroyed. SAM HOUSTON ARRIVES AT REFIGIO, STILL PLANS TO THWART THE MATAMOROS EXPEDITION Today Sam Houston arrived at Refugio to make additional attempts to persuade the troops not to support the Matamoros Expedition being headed by Johnson, Grant and Fannin.
