Today in 1976, Muhammad Ali retained the heavyweight title by UD in 15 rounds over ken norton. A disputed decision, Norton used his better legs to trap Ali and hook as the champion moved away in the early rounds, racking up a lead. But in the later rounds, Norton began to get careless and go to the ropes himself, trying to essentially rope-a-dope Ali, which proved to be a serious mistake. Ali went on to win most of the late rounds, which opened the door for the judges to lean the cards his way. This fight was so close that the decision could have gone to either man as was the case with their other two fights, but most people had agreed that Norton should have gotten the decision in this one! What a great fight this was!
