Today in 2005, Ricky Hatton won the junior welterweight title by corner retirement in 11 rounds over Kostya Tszyu. The reigning champion Tszyu had issues with Hattons physicality throughout the bout, which was rough from very early on. For the most part, Hatton mauled Tszyu inside, while the latter had few answers for the challengers aggression. Both men went down on slips or pushes, both landed low multiple times, but from rounds 9 and 10 onward, the fight was all Hatton. Just prior to round 11, a bruised and swollen Tszyu fails to answer the bell. It is Tszyus final bout.
