Today in 3yo kinder we.......... played outside in the beautiful sunshine with the water table. We poured water through the water toys and made the water wheels move. When we are playing with water we are beginning to understand mathematical concepts such as cause and effect and trial and error, we can demonstrate and understanding of size, capacity and volume. Our motor skills are getting a work out too as we pour and scoop water! We are also expanding on our literacy skills by talking about full, empty, wet, dry, damp, saturated etc. At pack up time we recycled our water and gave the flowers and plant’s a drink. We had running & bike races, cooking in the sand pit and lot’s of climbing on the climbing frames, we use our gross motor skills for climbing as well developing our spatial awareness. A few of us played a game with Bree with a feather, we would tickle her leg with the feather and she thought it was a fly, we laughed A LOT! At snack time our names were put on a table, after using the bathroom we looked for our name and that is where we sat for snack. Name cards are used throughout the year for name recognition and early literacy skills, other things we use the name cards for are at the drawing table so that we can copy the letters, the font that is used is called Victorian Modern Cursive, which is the font used at primary school. Inside we played with the army toys, painted with textured gloves, used letters on the light table and leggo on the mat. Home corner was set up like a hospital today with bandages and doctors kits. Sofi was admitted into the Pucka Kinder Hospital. We bandaged her up and gave her pretend needles, Sofi didn’t really like the needles, and she wasn’t very brave at all. We made some hanging decorations using various types of threading materials and a CD on the bottom to catch the sunlight. Imaginative play helps children to make connections between experiences, concepts and processes. Until next time...... Bree, Tania & Sofi
