Today in Danish history: Denmark was occupied by Germany on April 9, 1940. The actual occupation proved no challenge for Germany. After a few hours of fighting the Danish soldiers in southern Jutland surrendered, and the Danish government began negotiations with the German invasion forces. [ Also, on a more celebratory note, Danish architect Jørn Utzon was born 96 years ago today. Utzon designed the Sydney Opera House, which turned 40 last summer. He passed away in 2008 at age 90. ]
