Today in Guatemala, the trial for the murder Adolfo Ich Chamán, an indigenous activist, was delayed until April 24 for unknown reasons. Ich Chamán was a Maya Q’eqchi’ leader who spoke out about severe environmental damage and other abuses at the hands of corporate Canadian mining in Izabal region. Mynor Padilla, the former head of security for the mines, under the ownership of HudBay Minerals, was to be tried for the murder of Ich Chamán and the shooting of seven others in 2009. Sign the statement of solidarity to stand with the Maya Q’eqchi’ community as they continue to defend basic rights and demand justice for the murder of Adolfo Ich Chamán:
