Today in History: 14th March 1879: Albert Einstein is born. 1915: The German light cruiser Dresden is scuttled and sunk by her own crew after being cornered by British ships Kent & Glasgow, off the coast of Chile. 1965: 2nd Wave of Operation Rolling Thunder, the first to use napalm, is launched in Vietnam by US air forces. 1990: General Secretary of the Congress of Peoples Deputies, Mikhail Gorbachev, is elected as the new President of the Soviet Union. 1991: The Birmingham Six are released from prison following widespread criticism of the methods used to interrogate and extract confessions from the six Irish men. Several years later, their charges were formally overturned by a British court.
