Today in History: On October 26, 312 Roman Emperor Constantine saw a vision of the cross of Christ. This vision from God ultimately led to Constantine’s conversion to Christianity. Following his conversion, Constantine along with Licinius in Milan, developed the Edict of Milan in February of the next year. This edict stated that Christians should be allowed to follow their faith without oppression. This removed penalties for professing Christianity, under which many had been martyred in persecutions of Christians, and returned confiscated Church property. As the first Christian Roman Emperor, Constantine’s conversion directly led to the rapid spread of Christianity throughout the world.
