Today in Lansing.... MI House Republicans passed three bills out of committee that authorize adoption agencies to use taxpayer funds to discriminate based on religious beliefs. Obviously, using taxpayer funds to advance discrimination is wrong. To be clear, if the church wants to discriminate against LGBT or Jewish families that should be their prerogative. Supporting that activity with public funds is, however, deeply unAmerican. I was in committee, eager to testify on the numerous Constitutional problems with funding a religious mission with public funds. Unfortuately, I was denied the opportunity to speak and my colleagues on the committee were denied the opportunity to make amendments.
