Today in Rock History: January 19, 1943 – Happy Birthday to Janis Joplin! Known by her fans as The Queen of Psychedelic Soul. She rose to fame with the band, Big Brother and the Holding Company and then went on to have a successful solo career. Joplin was well known for her performing ability and was a multi instrumentalist. She had an electric stage presence and “Rolling Stone” ranked Joplin No. 46 on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” in 2004. She was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in 1995.
