He is is born in Melbourne, Australia. 1962 1940s Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s bassist C.F. Turner (Charles Frederick Turner) is born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. 1943 The Grateful Dead’s singer-songwriter-guitarist, Bob Weir, is born in San Francisco. He is one of the group’s founding members. 1947 1950s Little Richard Little Richard (Richard Penniman) has his first recording session. The 18-year old lays down a handful tracks in Atlanta. 1951 Elvis Presley makes his broadcast debut on “The Louisiana Hayride” radio show. 1954 1960s A 12 year old Stevie Wonder is part of the two-month long Motown’s Motor Town Revue. 1962 Damn you Von Trapps! “The Sound Of Music” soundtrack keeps the Rolling Stones “Out Of Our Heads” from reaching the top spot on the U.K. album chart. 1965 Jefferson Airplane play the Longshoremens Hall, the first of many happenings in the Bay Area. The Great Society, with future Airplane vocalist Grace Slick, is also on the bill. 1965 Exactly one year later, Slick performs for the first time as a member of Jefferson Airplane. She replaces Signe Anderson. 1966 Leonard Chess, co-founder of Chess Records with his brother Phil, dies of a heart attack. The legendary R&B and Blues label was home to Chuck Berry and countless others. 1969 1970s Creedence Clearwater Revival officially announce they are disbanding. Rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty left the previous year. Group leader John Fogerty goes solo. 1972 John Clayton Mayer is born in Bridgeport, CT, while his parents are waiting on the world to change. 1977 1980s U2 Eric Clapton and Keith Richards perform at the 60th birthday party for Chuck Berry. Berry’s actual birthday is two days away. 1986 Smile Jamaica, a benefit concert in London to aid Jamaica’s recovery from Hurricane Gilbert features U2, Aztec Camera, Keith Richards and Ziggy Marley. 1988 1990s Bob Dylan Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Celebration is held at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Tom Petty, the Band, Eddie Vedder and Johnny Cash take the stage. Dylan sings “My Back Pages” and Neil Young does his version of “All Along The Watchtower.” The show closes with an ensemble rendition of “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” 1992 Hey Jealousy, the Gin Blossoms’ first charting single, peaks on the pop chart. The track gets all the way to #25. 1993 2000s Velvet Revolver’s first U.S. tour kicks off in Antioch, TN. Meanwhile, Tommy Lee makes a debut of sorts. The Motley Crue drummer performs with the University of Nebraska marching band during the half-time show of the Baylor-Nebraska game at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium. It’s part of a planned NBC reality show that has the 42-year old Lee enrolled at Nebraska. By the way, Nebraska trounces Baylor 59-27. They should have put some pads on Tommy Lee. It would have been no more physically demanding than his romps with Pamela Anderson. 2004 Queen plays their first ever U.S. show with Paul Rodgers fronting the group. The concert takes place in East Rutherford N.J. 2005 A Beatles photography exhibit, described as the most comprehensive ever, opens at the San Francisco Art Exchange. The Long and Winding Road -- The Life and Times of John, Paul, George & Ringo features more than 100 pictures of The Beatles by more than 20 photographers, including never-before-seen shots. 2006 Paul McCartney submits an application through his MPL Communications company requesting to have his name trademarked so he can profit from licensing his moniker on a variety of products. In Canton, CT, a non-famous Paul McCartney has his own thoughts on petition. The two-disc collection contains rare concert and television footage. One focuses on the Bon Scott era while the other delves into Brian Johnsons tenure. 2007 Ultimate Santana, a retrospective is released. The compilation contains previously unreleased collaborations with Chad Kroeger and Tina Turner. Into The Night, a Kroeger composition, has vocals by Nickelback’s frontman. The soundtrack features Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs). 2009 2010s For the first time ever Elton John and Leon Russell hit the road together in support of their joint T Bone Burnett produced album “The Union.” The first stop is the Wang Theater in Boston. At the same show Burnetts Speaking Clock Revue with Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp, and Gregg Allman also performs. The concert raises money for the Participant Foundation, which supports music and arts education in public schools. 2010 A Night to Remember Jim Morrison” takes place at The Rutledge in Nashville.
