Today in Texas History: Thursday, March 6, 2014 1836 - The 13-day Mexican siege of the Alamo ended. The battle, led by Genneral Antonio López de Santa Anna, ended when all remaining defenders were killed. The Mexican army of three thousand men defeated the 189 Texas volunteers. 1891 - In Austin, the Texas Confederate Home, previously known as the John B. Hood Camp of United Confederate Veterans, deeded its property to the state of Texas. 1954 - In London, the Anglo-Texan Society in London held its first official event. It was a barbecue for fifteen hundred guests that feasted on 2,800 pounds of beef donated by the Houston Fat Stock Show. 1963- A young man was born at 5:42 am at Glenview Hospital in North Richland Hills Texas. Although he was born in North Richland Hills, he had a steadfast allegiance to Haltom High School. Later in life this man displayed an interest in translating redneck words and Texas history. 2009 - It was announced that a U.S. Navy Freedom class littoral combat ship would have the name USS Fort Worth. 2010 - At the Fort Worth Zoo, the Museum of Living Art opened to the public.
