Today in Western New York Weather History : 1995 Lake effect snow began during the morning of Wednesday November 8th and continued into the morning of Thursday the 9th before warmer air brought the event to an end Thursday evening. Downwind from Lake Erie, snowfall amounts of 8 to 12 inches blanketed portions of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Downwind from Lake Ontario, 6 to 8 inches were reported from southeastern Oswego where the snow mixed with graupel at times. 2005 Low pressure over the upper Great Lakes deepened as it moved to Quebec. The passage of the low brought strong thunderstorms to the area during the late morning and afternoon hours. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines with scattered power outages reported. Hail, up to 1 in diameter, also accompanied the storms. In Silver Creeks, a vacant house was struck by lightning and set on fire. In Oswego, a lightning strike to a home knocked off shingles and started a small fire in the roof. The lightning traveled through the electrical system, damaging appliances, and through the homes copper water pipes.
