Today in music history December the 23: 1940 : Jorma Kaukonen (guitarist for Jefferson Airplane) is born in Washington, DC. 1969 : B.J. Thomas Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head is certified gold. 1973 : Jim Croces Time In A Bottle hits #1. 1992 : Eddie Hazel (lead guitarist for Funkadelic) dies from internal bleeding and liver failure in Plainfield, New Jersey, at age 42. 2003 : Simon & Garfunkel donate a million dollars to the Childrens Health Fund (started by Paul six years earlier.) 1964 : After appearing on the TV show Shindig! where they perform their Christmas hit Little Saint Nick, Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys has a nervous breakdown on a flight to Houston, where they begin a two-week tour. Wilson decides to stop performing, and Glen Campbell replaces him on the tour. 1947 : Three scientists at Bell Labs in New Jersey demonstrate the transistor, which leads to the invention of small, portable transistor radios. The scientists win the 1956 Nobel Prize for their work. 1967 : John Lennon makes the first contact with his estranged father, Alf, in years: after hearing that hes taken ill, John sends him a get well note and a car so that he can visit his famous son. 1957 : The Champs record Tequila. 1959 : The Drifters record This Magic Moment.
