Today in the Senate I spoke against federal legislation which backs-up Campbell Newman’s draconian G20 laws. Legitimate security concerns have been manipulated for political convenience – why else would banners expressing a differing point of view to Tony Abbott be banned? Instead of standing up to Newman’s attacks on civil liberties (remember the CMC and VLAD?!), federal Labor and Liberal have shown disregard for human rights by passing this bill, which takes away basic freedoms and rights.
