Today is D-Day - Discussion and perhaps, Decision, Day... In a little while well be heading to an appointment with my neurosurgeon at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience. Its my annual meeting with him, although Ive managed to go two years without seeing him this time :) This past year things have changed rapidly for me. And to be honest, if there wasnt such a drastic change in my symptoms - deteriorating stuff and an exponential increase in pain - I probably wouldve tried to squeak out more year without seeing the good doctor. Ill have the results of every ---ologist whos experimented on me these past couple of months. When your waste disposal and plumbing systems are short-circuited because of a signal problem (in my case a tumor growing in my spinal cord), the tests that are performed to determine the amount of nerve damage down there become an amazing testament to the medical professions imagination. Cords, wires, tubes, and other items are shoved into orifices that, yes, can make a grown man cry... My latest nerve test results (another sadistic idea from the medical community) will be discussed and compared to my first round where torturous electrical needles were jabbed into my legs - just to see how high I could jump. In fairness to me, I didnt have time to study for these latest tests and I believe thats why I failed them so miserably. But the most difficult decision (discussion) will be the topic of the spinal cord stimulator thats been in me for the past four and half years. Its helped with the pain a lot, but because its not MRI compatible, I havent been able to get an MRI since 2010. And that means my neurosurgeon hasnt been able to monitor the growth of the tumor the way he would have liked. Chances are, hes going to tell me it has to come out. All that is a LONG way (sorry for rambling) of saying: Heres wishing everyone a day where we walk by faith!
