Today is Giving Tuesday. What is Giving Tuesday, you ask? Heres the perfect explanation from their website... We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. As you know, I have been hosting my own global giving event, hoping to hand a thousand dollars to five different charities. We already reached the first goal and Ill be mailing a thousand dollar check to the Gift of Life Family House!! Thank you! We are exactly $78.48 away from reaching our second goal - to mail a thousand dollar check to Gavins Trust Project which helps teachers, therapists and families obtain much needed and expensive equipment, therapy tools, classroom furniture and adaptive toys for special needs children. I know well reach that goal today. :-) The third goal on our list is Gavins Playground Project! The extra thousand dollars we send their way will get us one step closer to helping A.I. duPont Hospital for Children| Nemours create a much needed and extraordinary adaptive playground for their patients and - just as important, the siblings and loved ones of the patients! I always say I should have fought harder for this playground when Gavin was alive. It would have been such a dream to see Gavin and Brian playing together outside that hospital where we spent so much time as a family. But I can fight for it now - and fight for all the kids like Gavin who deserve a place to play. You know, our little boy DIED in this hospital. Yet here we are still wanting to help them, help the children inside and stay connected. That says less about US than it does about them. This is a family centered, patient focused, loving institution and I am so grateful for how they cared for Gavin - in life and during his death.
