Today is International Day Against Domestic Violence noted by the White Ribbon Campaign. Our senior students delivered an enormous annual donation of comfort items from our recent HTG Appeal to many of the 1:4 local women escaping control and violence. Our students were staggered as they discussed with the UnitingCare West manager the epidemic proportions that exist within all sectors of our community. Australian National Committee for UN Women report studies that up to 70% of women experience violence in their lifetime. This is a human rights imperative as it impacts someones mother, aunt, daughter, cousin, friend, grandmother, sister, niece or neighbour. The girls gave thanks for the privilege in partnering such integral care and bringing hope for so many women needing safety to rebuild futures. We were reminded that all of us play a role by refusing to be bystanders in terms of women experiencing aggression, control or physical violence.
