Today is Leonard Peltier Day on June 26. Thirty-nine years ago on this day, a firefight broke out between American Indian Movements defenders and United States Special Agents of the FBI on the Jumping Bull property of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Two FBI agents and a Native man were subsequently killed. Leonard Peltier was framed in the deaths of the agents despite a total lack of evidence. For anyone who hasnt seen this excellent documentary film by Robert Redford, spend some time to watch it. This travesty of justice will speak for itself as all sides, state attorneys, the FBI, native peoples, and defense attorneys -- all express their views.
