Today is National Navajo Code Talkers Day proclaimed for August 14 - TopicsExpress

Today is National Navajo Code Talkers Day proclaimed for August 14 by President Reagan in 1982. Earlier this year, the last of the original 29 Navajos who created and implemented the code, Chester Nez, passed away. After reading the news reports of his life, I obtained and read his fascinating memoir, Code Talker: The First and Only Memoir by One of the Original Navajo Code Talkers of WWII. Highly recommended. This is an aspect of WWII that Americans should be more familiar with. We owe a great debt to these American heroes!
