Today is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. Each year, more than one million pregnancies end in either miscarriage or stillbirth in the U.S. alone. Many families who endure pregnancy loss are unaware of how common their situation is and would benefit from more information about the growing number of resources available to help them grieve. At FBC, we provide support for families who share in these struggles through a ministry called Hannah’s Hope. Shortly after suffering a miscarriage in April of 2013, FBC Tulsa member Kathryn Johnson knew she wanted to use her pain and experience to help others. That summer, she felt called to start a ministry to help those who walk the same journey of infant loss – whether it be miscarriage, stillbirth, or early infant death. With the help of a friend and the support of the church, that dream quickly became a reality. Inspired by Hannah’s prayers for a child in 1 Samuel, Hannah’s Hope reminds us of the hope we have through Christ even after the loss of a baby. For the recipients of this ministry, this hope is delivered in the form of a personalized Hope Box that contains a variety of items to honor and remember the baby or babies and assist the family through their grief. By placing Hope Boxes in the hands of grieving families, Hannah’s Hope affirms that the life of each baby is worthy of remembrance and encourages families to work through their grief in a healthy way. If you know someone who would benefit from a Hope Box, visit hannahshope.us or email hannahshopefbc@gmail.
