Today is Nurses Day, a date set to coincide with the birthday of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale. In Februarys Valentines Day storms, the 3-metre high marble memorial on Florence Nightingales grave at St Margaret’s Church in East Wellow, Hampshire was broken when a tree uprooted by strong winds smashed the top metre of the memorial and broke a cross, dislodging the body of the memorial from its plinth. In honour of Florences birthday and Nurses Day, the heritage insurer Ecclesiastical has funded the full repair of the memorial - stonemasons were able to locate all the fragments and painstakingly piece them back together, restoring the monument to its original state.
