Today is October 1....I will be posting about Breast Cancer every day this month....why? because it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? yes. But more importantly, because I am a survivor and want to tell my story. So here is todays. In 1996, I think, my father was diagnosed with colon cancer. It was a very hard and difficult surgery and treatment that he had to endure. I remember how hard he fought when he was feeling so bad. That led my doctors to schedule annual colonoscopies and mammograms. Did you know that colon cancer, breast cancer and bone cancer are all the same type of cancer? My yearly Mammograms were fine for a while. Then they began calling me in every 6 months to watch a suspicious spot. Then in April of 2000, I was told to go see a breast surgeon. I had a biopsy which became a lumpectomy because there was so much suspicious tissue. That weekend was the longest weekend I can remember. On Monday, I got the phone call that it was cancer...and the fun began. Please do your self breasts exam. I am living proof that early detection is the key to beating this thing. Please have your Mammograms.
