Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day! And it just so happens - TopicsExpress

Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day! And it just so happens that one of the first Navigators, Jim Downing, is the oldest living Pearl Harbor survivor at 101 years old. He served on the U.S.S. West Virginia that was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked the U.S. Naval base there. So today we decided to share this fun story about the life-long Navigator, Navy veteran and life-long learner. ------------------- Heres the story that happened last week as told by The Navigators Brett Clark ... At 101, Jim downing has experienced a lot over the past century. But the “life-long learner” recently had his first experience with Skype on his iPad (what a techie). “I can’t believe how clear the picture was!” Jim shared with a smile. Jim was contacted by Audrie (pictured Skyping Jim), a Journalism student at West Virginia University, who learned about Jim being the oldest living Pearl Harbor veteran in the WVUTODAY Alumni Newsletter. She inquired about an interview through Skype and Jim was quick to oblige her. Here’s a photo that captures some NEW history for Jim as he experienced Skype firsthand with Audrie. Near the end of the interview Jim shared, “I consider the men and women in Afghanistan to be the real heroes, not me,” which prompted Audrie to finish with, “I can tell you are a very humble man. I want you to know that you are a hero to me.” ------------------- P.S. - Thanks for serving Jim!
