Today is September 13, 2014. This is the 97th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatimas apparition to the three children in Portugal. At this apparition Our Lady asked the children to pray the Rosary for peace. So, with the world once again on the brink of a world war I am asking all of my fellow Catholics to say a decade of the Rosary for peace today or tomorrow, and to pray for peace at Mass today or tomorrow. The reason the world is on the brink of a Third World War is the fanatic determination of far, far too many people in the Church that there not be even a hint of scandal on the late Pope John Paul II; and because of the greed, cowardice and careerism of far, far too many people in the US political class. Finally, let me issue a plea to what the Church calls All Men and Women of Good Will to do all that they can to prevent such a Third World War. There is a quite powerful coalition of groups in the US pushing for such a war, for a variety of reasons. So, there are some real risks to opposing the march towards war--even personal risks--I dont want to be melodramatic but that is the ugly reality. But people should remember the old saying: Cowards die a thousand times, brave men just once. The great French socialist Jean Juares gave his life trying to stop the mad rush into World War I--and he is warmly remembered by history; the cowards and fools among the European elites who went along with this disasterous war are remembered with the scorn and contempt they so richly earned.
